156: notables

few notable happenings today. i saw a patient with leg swelling yesterday and it looked suggestive enough for blood clot that i decided to treat him right away even though i couldn't get the ultrasound yesterday. they called me this morning with the ultrasound results- with a large blood clot, and since i didn't answer immediately they sent him to the emergency room. blood clots are one of the things we can actually treat without sending patients to the ER, so i called the ER and had them send the patient back to me. that was my once in 2.5 yrs of working there that i took a patient from the ER instead of the usual, which is me sending a patient to the ER.

the other interesting thing today was i got a new patient from SF, an elderly cantonese speaking woman with the same last name as me. the interesting part was she fell, and broke her neck! c1 and c2 vertebrae. she came into the office in a rigid halo to keep her neck straight. it is completely amazing that this woman is alive. i am thankful they saved her. she is a funny character.
